Very rare and beautiful, ca1910 Sheffield Silver, Desktop Cigar Case / Holder and Cigar Lighter. This fantastic oil fueled Cigar Lighter / Case measures approx. 5” tall and 6 1/2” by 3 3/4”at the base.
This elegant Cigar Lighter / Box stands upright on four legs. The sides of the Lighter open to reveal storage areas for Cigars. The central body of the Lighter is the fluid reservoir and at the top of this reservoir there is a burner and a removable dip. The wick of the burner would remain lit and the dip could be used to transfer the flame from the burner and light a cigar.
This very elegant and formal Cigar Holder and Lighter would have sat on the desk of an “important” gentleman. By lowering one side of the case, the other side opens automatically thus offering a visitor a cigar from the case. The visitor and the “gentleman” would then use the dip to light their cigars from thew flame of the lighter.
The Cigar Lighter / Case carries the mark of the manufacturer – Fenton Brothers & Co. of Sheffield, England.
The rare and very beautiful, early 20th century Cigar Lighter is in excellent condition and appears to have never been used. There are no breaks, cracks, wear or damage of any kind. The Cigar Lighter retains its original dip and wick which has never been lit. The silver plated surface is intact and without significant wear but is tarnished and in need of a good polishing. Overall the Lighter is exceptionally well preserved and shows little evidence of use.
